The United States Aquaculture Society, National Aquaculture Association and North Central Regional Aquaculture Center are offering a free webinar that covers on-farm biosecurity. Good biosecurity minimizes losses and keeps devastating diseases off the farm. Biosecurity should be part of any production facility’s management plan. General principles of biosecurity and strategies to minimize risks will be described, using examples based on select species and production systems.
Presenter: Roy Yanong is a Professor and Extension Veterinarian based at the University of Florida’s Tropical Aquaculture Laboratory in Ruskin. He provides outreach, research, and educational programs in fish health management, including on-site veterinary assistance and disease diagnostic support for producers throughout the state. Roy received his B.A. from Yale University and his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine, concentrating in aquatic animal medicine. He worked as staff veterinarian at a large ornamental fish farm in Florida for 4.5 years prior to joining the University of Florida where he has worked for 20 years.
