The Port of San Diego recently released the Second Discussion Draft of the Shellfish and Seaweed Aquaculture Program (SSAP). As this program moves toward environmental review and eventual implementation, it is important that the California Aquaculture Association (CAA) and its members provide comprehensive feedback to ensure the framework is both practical and commercially viable.

What is the SSAP?
The SSAP is intended to provide a streamlined “road map” for shellfish and seaweed operations within the Port’s jurisdiction. Version 2 includes significant updates to spatial planning for both in-water and landside sites, as well as revised Best Management Practices (BMPs). These details will directly impact future permitting ease and operational costs.
How You Can Help:
We are currently drafting a formal response. To make our comments as effective as possible, we need your ground-level expertise. Please send your feedback on site suitability, spatial constraints, proposed BMPs, or anything else you feel essential to the CAA office by June 8th.

- Inform Our Collective Voice: Share your thoughts with us. Your insights into the technical feasibility of the proposed sites and operational requirements are essential for a strong CAA submission.
- Submit Your Own Comments: We encourage members to submit individual comments directly to the Port at SSAP@portofsandiego.org.
