The Ocean Protection Council (OPC) has convened several state entities – including the California Coastal Commission, Department of Fish and Wildlife, Fish and Game Commission, State Lands Commission, the Coastal Conservancy, the California Department of Public Health, the State Water Resources Control Board, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture – to collaboratively develop a Statewide Aquaculture Action Plan.
The OPC anticipates releasing a draft for public review in Spring 2026, with the final version presented for adoption at the June 2026 OPC meeting.
As part of this process, the OPC and California Sea Grant are requesting participation in a virtual workshop on January 22nd from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This workshop offers the marine aquaculture community an opportunity to provide feedback on draft goals and actions before the public review period begins.
The CAA Marine Aquaculture Committee has provided industry feedback and continues to engage with the OPC regarding the development of the Action Plan. Interested CAA members are encouraged to attend this workshop. Meeting details to follow.
