CAA Requests a Focused Federal Regulatory Reform Effort

CAA and NAA have formally requested that USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins spearhead a focused federal regulatory reform initiative aimed at supporting the U.S. aquaculture sector.

This proposed effort will build on a decade’s worth of groundwork. From 2013 to 2023, the aquaculture community participated in nine independent, peer-reviewed, federally funded studies conducted by objective economists. These studies quantified the economic impact and operational challenges posed by state and federal regulations on the industry. The findings, recently summarized, highlight a range of practical, common-sense solutions to improve regulatory efficiency. These recommendations align closely with priorities outlined in the Strategic Plan to Enhance Regulatory Efficiency in Aquaculture, published in 2022 by the National Science and Technology Council’s Subcommittee on Aquaculture.

With the federal government undergoing a significant realignment of its priorities, CAA strongly encourages members of the aquaculture and farming communities to voice their support for this initiative by writing to Secretary Rollins.
