Ocean Rainforest acquires majority of Mexican seaweed producer Alamarsa

Faroe Islands-based Ocean Rainforest has acquired a majority stake in Mexican seaweed company Alamarsa, known for its Algamar brand of biostimulants and food products. The partnership combines Alamarsa’s expertise in seaweed extraction with Ocean Rainforest’s open-ocean farming technology. Both companies aim to expand sustainable seaweed-based solutions globally, particularly in agriculture. Ocean Rainforest CEO Ólavur Gregersen stated the acquisition will accelerate market entry and help farmers transition to sustainable practices. The company plans to scale production in the U.S. and Mexico over the next two years while continuing its work in various industries, from cosmetics to animal feed.
