Job Opportunity: USDA ARS Pacific Shellfish Research Unit Technician (Newport, Oregon)

The USDA ARS Pacific Shellfish Research Unit is seeking one Biological Science Technician (GS7/8) to be located at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon.  The technician will perform a range of duties in field and lab environments, predominantly working in an aquaculture production facility and genetics laboratory.  Genetic work will include library preparation for next-generation sequencing, data processing, database management, and data collection. This position will assist aquaculture staff in producing Pacific oysters for the USDA breeding program, the Pacific Oyster Genomic Selection project. Animal husbandry duties will include working with all life stages of shellfish both onshore and on rafts where broodstock animals are housed. The technician will be responsible for aiding PSRU scientists in setting up research experiments, transferring animals to remote field sites and/or laboratories and collecting data on research individuals.
