Trump’s best seafood trade move MIA in administration’s final days

Donald Trump may not be much longer for the White House, but US seafood companies – including especially those in the lobster and pollock sectors — hope what they believe to be one of his best trade-related initiatives sticks around and makes a difference.

The Seafood Trade Task Force, a roughly one dozen-person unit, created by Trump in his “Executive Order on Promoting American Seafood Competitiveness and Economic Growth“, issued May 7, was expected to deliver a list of recommendations by Nov. 4.

The purpose, according to the decree: Better devise a “comprehensive interagency seafood trade strategy that identifies opportunities to improve access to foreign markets through trade policy and negotiations, resolves technical barriers to United States seafood exports, and otherwise supports fair market access for United States seafood products”…
