In 2019, the National Sea Grant Law Center (NSGLC) at the University of Mississippi School of Law received funding to facilitate discussions among state regulators to identify best practices in regulating seaweed for use as human food. As part of this effort, the NSGLC is hosting a series of webinars from August through October to share information on the existing legal framework and policy gaps and challenges.
The first webinar, on Thursday, August 27 at 2 PM Central, will focus on the federal framework, and feature presentations on food safety hazards associated with seaweed and the role of the Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture. The presentations will be followed by a facilitated Q&A session, and participants will be asked to identify gaps in the existing regulations to inform future discussions.
To register, for the August 27 webinar, please visit our Eventbrite page at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/116427536897. Upon registration, participants will receive additional information about how to join the webinar via Zoom. Participants will also receive further technical details the week of the webinar.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact NSGLC Director Stephanie Otts at sshowalt@olemiss.edu.
