A recent article in the National Fisherman details the opposition from commercial fishermen and organizations of offshore aquaculture. The issues and concerns discussed in the article are not based in research and are inconsistent with offshore aquaculture successes around the world. We, as an organization and as producers, should work with the commercial fishing industry to inform one another and support the seafood industry as a whole. As ocean fisheries remain at their limits, aquaculture must supplement.
The Northwest Aquaculture Alliance (NWAA) and National Aquaculture Association (NAA) submitted a joint letter National Fisherman. The California Aquaculture Association (CAA) has been, and will continue to work with NAA and the NWAA to defend and support offshore aquaculture.
