NOAA National Marine Fisheries (NMFS) is advertising for a new position: Senior Advisor for Aquaculture. The advertising period is 08/27/2018 to 09/25/2018 and salary range $126,148 to $189,600 per year.
The Senior Advisor is expected to be a preeminent expert in the field of aquaculture development and the creation of public-private partnerships to further the contributions of the United States seafood industry to the United States economy. The incumbent is expected to possess excellent communication skills and have a deep understanding of the United States seafood industry. The Senior Advisor will be NMFS’ principle liaison with the industry regarding market development for existing and new products and is expected to work with the United States aquaculture industry to grow this important sector of the economy. Specific duties of the Senior Advisor include:
Maintain current and comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of the United States seafood industry – both aquaculture and wild-capture fisheries.
The Senior Advisor for Aquaculture will serve as a preeminent expert in the field of aquaculture development across the United States. The Senior Advisor for Aquaculture and Partnership position is specifically responsible for the following:
- Contribute to the strategic planning and program development NMFS Regulatory Programs and the Aquaculture Program Office to enhance coastal resiliency, improving food security and human nutrition, and as a valuable tool to help rebuild some protected species and habitats.
- Focus on NMFS products and services, including aquaculture for creating new partnership and marketing opportunities for United States fishery products that significantly impacts United States and global economic returns on investment.
- Creating opportunities for commercial fishermen to market their waste products to new consumers as a method for developing new markets.
- Interact with industry representatives, investors, regulators and members of the public to facilitate new and expanded aquaculture production.
- Interface with researchers within NOAA and elsewhere to foster innovative aquaculture science and technology development that can provide economic or ecological value for the country.
- Interact with major U.S. domestic commercial and wild capture fishing corporations to evaluate what products and services they need from the government in order to increase their contribution to the United States economy.
- Serve as a liaison between the industry and NMFS and other government agencies to both facilitate communications and to ensure that the industry can take advantage of all the services the United States government may offer.
- Provide strategic advice to NMFS leadership on the function and activities of NMFS’ Office of Aquaculture and on opportunities to advance aquaculture within the United States and abroad.
- Collaborate and partner with other federal agencies, coastal communities, states, tribes, the aquaculture industry, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to transition innovative aquaculture technologies and document and assess their environmental, ecosystem, and socioeconomic impacts.
