The Center for Aquaculture Technologies (CAT) reports that it has successfully filed a patent application for a method of sterilizing fish, shrimp, and mollusks in aquaculture settings, enabling better environmental protections.
The company, which maintains a laboratory in the US in San Diego, California, and another in Prince Edward Island, Canada, said the technology is “the first in a planned family of patents covering tools and methods for making aquatic organisms sterile”.
CAT is exclusively owned by Amsterdam, the Netherlands-based Linnaeus Capital Partners but is in active discussions with several potential investors to further develop its research and development portfolio with hopes of capitalizing more on biotechnology in the aquaculture sector, the company said…
