California Sea Grant Now Accepting Applications for the 2027 John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship Program

Applications due: June 3, 2026 by 5:00 PM PT

The Knauss Fellowship, sponsored by NOAA’s National Sea Grant College Program, provides a unique educational experience for highly qualified graduate and post-graduate students interested in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and the national policy decisions that affect them.

This paid, one-year program places fellows in legislative and executive branch offices in the Washington, D.C. area, where they gain hands-on experience in federal policy and decision-making while contributing their scientific expertise to inform policy development and management. Fellows work alongside policymakers, develop professional networks and build skills in communication, leadership and science policy. Alumni of the program have gone on to build successful careers across a wide range of sectors, including government, academia, consulting, private industry and nonprofit organizations, often continuing to bridge the gap between science and policy.

Interested students in California can visit California Sea Grant’s website for more information on eligibility and how to submit an application.
