The California Aquaculture Association (CAA) has written Governor Newsom asking for efficient and effective economic assistance for farms, businesses, and employees in California affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The CAA surveyed membership to better understand the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aquaculture industry in California. (Thank you to all who participated in this survey.) This information has been vital in understanding the industry’s needs during this trying time.

In the letter to Governor Newsom, recommendations included:

  • A streamlining of the application processes and fund distributions for:
    • SBA COVID-19 disaster relief
    • The EIDL Advance
    • The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)
  • A need for interruption of business insurance to include pandemics and similar market disruptions
  • A need to improve food security and depend more on domestic seafood
  • A need to streamline regulations so that more seafood can be grown in California
  • A need for additional grants and low interest loans to survive current conditions
