Legislature’s annual Fisheries Forum scheduled for April 24: 41st Forum to focus on impacts of drought and other fisheries issues

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Wesley Chesbro (D-North Coast), chairman of the Joint Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture, announced that the 41st Annual Fisheries Forum has been scheduled for Thursday, April 24 at the State Capitol in Sacramento.

John Laird, California’s Natural Resources Secretary, and Charlton Bonham, Director of the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, headline this year’s list of speakers and presenters.

Also new this year is a panel that will focus specifically on drought and fisheries protection.

The Forum begins upon adjournment of the Assembly’s 9 a.m. Floor Session and will be held in Room 447 of the Capitol. The public is welcome to attend the Forum. There is no cost to attend.

This will be the fifth and final Fisheries Forum Chesbro presides over as a member of the Legislature.

“It has been an honor to carry on this important tradition that was started by a North Coast legislator, former State Senator Barry Keene, more than forty years ago,” Chesbro said. “This annual discussion is an opportunity for the public to come to Sacramento and talk directly to lawmakers about California’s fisheries. The Forum has a very rich tradition and is important to constituents on the North Coast.”

The Committee will also hear from representatives from the National Marine Fisheries Service, Ocean Science Trust, California Dungeness Crab Task Force, California Advisory Committee on Salmon and Steelhead Trout and the Fishermen’s Marketing Association of Bodega Bay.
