California Sea Grant: Request for Support to Maintain Federal Funding

As Congress finalizes next year’s federal budget, there is a concerning possibility that the second Trump administration will once again propose eliminating all federal funding for Sea Grant. However, during the first Trump administration, funding was restored and even increased due to strong bipartisan congressional support and the advocacy of dedicated supporters.

It is crucial for Sea Grant that Congress maintains at least the current level of funding. Now more than ever, widespread support is needed to send a strong message to lawmakers. There are three key ways to help:

Taking one or more of these actions by March 2 will help ensure that congressional delegations hear this support while budgets are still being finalized. Spreading this request to networks and individuals or organizations that have benefited from the work of California Sea Grant is also encouraged.

Supporters’ efforts in contacting representatives and senators are greatly appreciated, as Sea Grant plays a vital role in the health and sustainability of coastal communities and economies.
