In January 2026, the FDA will enforce the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) 204 traceability rule for the food industry while many seafood stakeholders are not aware of what to expect from the regulatory agencies and the current resources available.

Join Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center (VSAREC) on May 3rd for the Seafood Traceability Summit, where industry experts and stakeholders convene to discuss critical topics like the FSMA 204 traceability rule and the evolving landscape of seafood traceability.

The summit will take place at the Virginia Tech Newport News Center, with an online option available for virtual attendees!

The FSMA initiative mandates compliance by January 20, 2026, impacting everyone who manufactures, processes, packs, or holds foods included on the Food Traceability List (FTL). However, some exemptions or partial exemptions could apply to some processors. As part of their commitment to empowering seafood industry stakeholders, the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center presents this summit to inform attendees about the rule, exemptions, and available technologies.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Insightful Discussions – Hear from industry experts and regulatory officials as they delve into the nuances of seafood traceability, exploring applicable regulations, challenges, best practices, and emerging trends.
  • Innovative Solutions – Discover cutting-edge technologies and solutions designed to streamline traceability processes, enhance supply chain efficiency, and ensure seamless compliance with FSMA regulations.
  • Networking Opportunities – Connect with peers, regulators, and technology providers.
