COMPETES Act Update

Courtesy of NAA:

On March 28, the Senate, following a roll call to limit debate on the measure (cloture), the Senate voted 68-28 to send its version, text from S1260 United States Innovation and Competition Act of 2021, of the two bills focused on improving US global competitiveness back to the House.

Next, the House will reject this text. This process is needed to set up a cross-chamber conference committee to settle on the final language for the bill (reconciliation of the two bills).

The National Aquaculture Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, US Association of Reptile Keepers, American Veterinary Medical Association, Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, and other pet and biomedical organizations will be commenting in opposition to COMPETES Act Section 71102 to the bill conferees.  We will share who the conferees are so that you may talk to their offices directly.

Thank you for reaching out to your House and Senate Offices, the NAA Office has been answering questions and supporting your efforts.
