The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has expanded a national emergency declaration to provide hours-of-service (HOS) regulatory relief to commercial vehicle drivers transporting emergency relief in response to the nationwide.
The Expanded Emergency Declaration provides relief to those drivers hauling “food” and “immediate precursor raw materials… that are required and to be used for the manufacture of … food.” We have received official interpretation from Wiley Deck, Director of Government Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Transportation, that ALL livestock movement fits these exemption definitions.
Drivers wishing to haul under this exemption are suggested to print out and keep in their cab a copy of the expanded national emergency declaration which is available here.
