HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — A Norwegian company working to establish a fish farm on the Samoa Peninsula responded to a campaign against the project by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, accusing PETA of using misinformation to promote its agenda.
PETA recently purchased ads on Humboldt County buses that read: “You Can’t Be a Fish-Eating Environmentalist. Aquafarming Pollutes Our Water. Go Vegan.”
The organization said the ads are in opposition to Nordic Aquafarms’s proposed fish farm. The company is in the permitting process and eventually aims to build a facility that would use a mixture of fresh and salt water to raise 33,000 tons of steelhead or Pacific salmon at the site of the former Samoa pulp mill…
