Sustainable Investing for the Future of Aquaculture

The Nature Conservancy and Encourage Capital have partnered to create a guide to impact investing in sustainable aquaculture, launched last week.

This guide represents a first attempt to assess the potential for impact investment in aquaculture through both an environmental and financial perspective. We believe that, if done right, aquaculture can help to meet the nutritional needs of a growing population while also generating environmental and social benefits, and providing attractive investment opportunities with compelling financial returns.

The recently published guide identifies three attractive impact investment opportunities which can help drive more environmentally friendly production, adding up to a rare opportunity for investors to generate compelling financial returns. These are:

1.            Seaweed and bivalve systems

2.            On-land finfish recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS)

3.            Offshore finfish systems

Investment in these sustainable production systems constitute a rare opportunity to generate compelling financial returns while tackling one of the signature challenges of our era—feeding a growing population without degrading the environment.

You will find the full guide along with more information about this novel opportunity for sustainable aquaculture on Nature.org.
