At the National Aquaculture Association (NAA) meeting at Aquaculture America New Orleans on March 7th, NAA bylaw amendments were adopted that resulted in an expansion of the NAA Board of Directors. These bylaw amendments created an additional eight director seats, four allocated for regional and national associations and four allocated to state associations.
After the passage of the amendments, caucuses were formed to elect the directors for the newly created seats. Within the state association caucus that was formed at the meeting, six state associations were represented, including the California Aquaculture Association (CAA), represented by Tony Vaught. The caucus selected four state associations to be represented on the NAA Board of Directors: Colorado, Florida, Illinois, and California.
On behalf of the CAA Board of Directors, Tony Vaught nominated CAA Executive Director, Michael Lee to represent CAA on the NAA Board of Directors. Lee will serve a three year term on the NAA Board of Directors.
As Lee’s appointment to the NAA Board of Directors is as a representative of CAA, this appointment is a significant accomplishment for CAA and will increase CAA’s involvement and influence at the national level. All CAA members are encouraged to continue to engage with CAA leadership to assist the association in properly representing producers and vendors at the state and national levels.
