The US Soybean Export Council’s (USSEC) International Soy in Aquaculture Program has established an Aquaculture Industry Advisory Council that will help develop long-term strategies for sustainable aquaculture development, the group said in a release.
USSEC works to connect US soybean farmers with opportunities to develop nutrition for humans, livestock and aquaculture, and this move shows their growing focus on aquaculture.
The council held its first meeting at the Global Outlook on Aquaculture Leadership (GOAL) conference in Vancouver, Canada on Oct. 26.
“We are honored to have the participation of such visionary leaders in various aquaculture sectors, including feed, research and sustainability certification,” said Colby Sutter, USSEC marketing director of aquaculture/customer focus. “Their combined knowledge and insight of the challenges and opportunities facing the industry today will help our program to best support the sustainable growth of global aquaculture.”
Jim Sutter, USSEC CEO, said that the first meeting went better than anticipated.
“The first Advisory Council meeting surpassed our expectations for valuable input from these aquaculture industry leaders,” he said.
