On August 2nd, 2015, The California Aquaculture Association, in coordination with Greg Dale (Coast Seafoods and CAA Director) and California State Aquaculture Coordinator, Randy Lovell, hosted a tour of the Humboldt Bay and its shellfish farms.
The tour brought together local oyster farmers from Hog Island, Taylor United, and Coast Seafoods, as well as State Senator, Mike McGuire, State Assemblymember, Jim Wood, California Aquaculture Association Directors and staff, Humboldt Bay Harbor District representatives, California Department of Fish & Wildlife staff, a California Fish & Game Commissioner, and others.
The morning tour provided a wonderful opportunity for industry members, state agencies and representatives, and locals to mingle on the boat while being taken around to view various oyster farms in the bay. Below are some pictures from the tour:
Humboldt Bay is host of the following farms: Taylor United, North Bay Shellfish, Humboldt Bay Oyster, Aqua Rodeo Farms, Coast Seafoods, Hog Island Oyster Co.
After the bay tour, some had an opportunity to tour the local pulp mill, which was recently shut down and is currently in the process of being re-purposed for aquaculture use. Below are pictures from the tour. Anyone interested in a lease on this site should contact info@caaquaculture.org.
