NIFA Releases Request for Applications (RFA) for 2015 Special Research Grants Program – Aquaculture Research

On April 22, 2015, the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) released a Request for Applications (RFA) for funding applied research projects focusing on aquaculture.

Opportunity number USDA-NIFA-SRGP-005095

SUMMARY: The purpose of the Aquaculture Research program is to support the development of an environmentally and economically sustainable aquaculture industry in the U.S. by generating new science-based information and technology to address industry constraints. Results of projects supported by this program are intended to help improve the profitability of the U.S. aquaculture industry, reduce the U.S. trade deficit, increase domestic food security, provide markets for U.S.-produced products, increase domestic aquaculture business investment opportunities, and provide more jobs for rural and coastal America.

For this FY 2015 Aquaculture Research program, NIFA is soliciting applied aquaculture research applications that directly address major constraints to the U.S. aquaculture industry and focus on one or more of the following Program Area Priorities:

1.         Genetics of commercial aquaculture species;

2.         Critical disease issues impacting aquaculture species;

3.         Design of environmentally and economically sustainable aquaculture production systems; and

4.         Economic research for increasing aquaculture profitability.

The amount available for support of this program in FY 2015 is approximately $1,350,000.

DATES: Applications for this announcement must be received by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on June 3, 2015.

NOTE: Please take note that this RFA’s page limit for the Project Narrative (15 pages) differs from other NIFA grant programs and last year’s RFA.  The RFA identifies the objectives for Aquaculture Research program projects, the eligibility criteria for projects and applicants, and the application forms and associated instructions needed to apply for an Aquaculture Research grant.
