The National Aquaculture Association (NAA) is sponsoring a special session, “Commercial Aquaculture Health Program Standards (CAHPS)”, at the Aquaculture America 2015 Conference on Friday, February 20 at 11am – 12:30pm in Mardi Gras E.  The focus of the session is  introduce the concept of the CAHPS, a voluntary, non-regulatory framework for the improvement and verification of the health of farmed aquatic animals produced in US commercial aquaculture industry sectors.

At the request of NAA, the Aquaculture Program Team from USDA APHIS Veterinary Services (VS) has been working together with representatives of the NAA during the past year to develop CAHPS program standards.  The goal of CAHPS is to support various business objectives including efforts to improve health management, protect and expand aquaculture business opportunities, promote and facilitate trade, as well as efforts to improve resource protection and environmental sustainability.

Plan to attend the CAHPS special session where the NAA representatives and VS staff will discuss the need and support for CAHPS and share the five principles that constitute the foundation of the standards.  Questions will be welcomed.
