Reminder: UC Davis and Pentair to Host Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) Technology Workshop: Nov 5-6, 2015

From the workshop brochure

About this workshop

Aquaculture, as a business, seems to be able to capture the imagination of a wide variety of individuals worldwide. Recirculating aquaculture technology (systems that recondition and re-use water) is the latest sector in aquaculture to have attracted attention and considerable venture capital. This workshop is designed for a broad audience. We will seek to provide nonbiased, research-based information to those that are interested in, or those using recirculating aquaculture fish production systems. The information presented in this two-day workshop comes either from the firsthand research results and experiences of the presenters or those of collaborators or colleagues around the world. Workshop registration includes a technical workbook, memory stick with applicable resource materials, break refreshments, and lunch each day.

Topics that will be covered during this 2-day workshop:

• Sustainable Aquaculture for the Future and How RAS Fits into this Equation
• Critical Considerations in Recirculating Aquaculture Production Systems
• Tank Hydraulics and Settleable Solids Removal
• Suspended Solids Removal Technologies
• Nitrification Processes and Biofilter Components
• Aeration and Oxygenation Processes in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems
• Carbon Dioxide Control in Intensive Aquaculture Systems
• Fine and Dissolved Solids Removal
• Planning and Building Recirculating Aquaculture Systems
• Denitrification in Aquaculture
• Management and Operation of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems
• Advancements in Solid Waste Capture and Treatment
• Disease Prevention and Control in Intensive Aquaculture Production Systems
• UV Sterilization, Transmittance, and Its Use in Disinfection
• Biofilter Economics: Comparative Costs of Different Biofilter Types
• Production Considerations in RAS Design
• RAS Designs and Layouts
